That is absolutely gorgeous! Lucky you! There are several varieties of Lady's Slipper Orchids native to New York State, but they are rare and endangered. I have never seen one. They bloom in June and July. I'm never back in my woods then, because of the poison ivy. Maybe I should brave it, to see if there are any there.

ReplyDeleteI knew generally where in the park to expect orchids. This little thing was further on from that area along a trail.
ReplyDeleteIt was totally a lucky find. The only one I saw yesterday, though I do see leaves.
Luckily we don't have much in the way of poison ivy and oak here.
